Welcome to my Bale Blog! I am so excited to share my experiences working on the farm, alongside my husband, Anthony. Battling cantankerous machinery, unforgiving weather, and long hours shows a true measurement of patience and marital strength.
Agriculture has always been a big part of my life, and I can’t wait to take you along on this journey with me.
Hard work and a forgiving spirit is what it takes to make it on a farm. From early mornings to late nights, we work together to ensure that our crops are healthy and thriving. There is something special about being able to work alongside nature and the people you love, and for that, I am forever grateful. My love and respect for the land was passed down from my Dad. He would often say, “There’s nothing better than the smell of fresh plowed dirt and fresh mowed hay.” I find that to still be true today. What a gift!
What’s your favorite part of farming?
I’ll share some of my favorite things.
One of the things that brings me back to the hay field every year is the unknown. This sounds a little farfetched, I know. But, it’s the mystery and challenge of every harvest. No two seasons are alike and they all pose different challenges. Sometimes, Mother Nature sweeps you along with perfectly timed rain and warm sunshine. Other times, your crops will die of drought during one of the wettest months on record. You can’t make it make sense.
There is no other profession in which all inputs must be paid for upfront, all of your dreams are made or broken by weather, your worst enemies are insects, and time is never on your side. You have forgotten what decade you clocked in and you still haven’t clocked out. Who in their right mind would do this?
A Farmer.
Thank you stopping in and being a part of our agricultural experience. I look forward to sharing experiences and hearing back from you.
Your local farm gal,
Jen
